About this tour

This itinerary invites curious travelers and heritage seekers on a profound journey into the soul of Southern Bulgaria – a region shaped by millennia of sacred traditions, dramatic natural formations, and hidden historical sites. Combining scenic mountain roads with ancient ritual landscapes, the tour traces the legacy of the Thracians – one of Europe’s oldest civilizations – while connecting it to the living culture of today’s rural Bulgaria.
From the Roman-era streets of Plovdiv to the volcanic cliffs of the Eastern Rhodopes, each day reveals another layer of history: carved into the rocks, buried beneath forested hills, or echoing through local folklore. Explore enigmatic cult sanctuaries like Belintash and the Utroba Cave, witness the grandeur of Asen’s Fortress, Perperikon and Mezek, and walk among the soaring cliffs of the Arda River. Along the way, you’ll meet local communities preserving crafts, flavors, and stories that reflect a strong bond between land and identity.
Carefully balanced between archaeological immersion and natural exploration, this tour also highlights authentic regional experiences: Rhodopean cuisine, small wineries, remote eco-lodges, and peaceful hikes. It’s a route for those who seek the sacred, the scenic, and the seldom seen.
Whether gazing at the stars above Belintash, wandering beneath the arches of a medieval bridge, or sipping red wine among the vines of Sakar, this journey offers more than sightseeing – it’s a reconnection with Europe’s ancient roots, woven into the living culture of a land still largely untouched by mass tourism.
